The 2013 Team Loaded Combine was held at Virginia Wesleyan College in Norfolk, Virginia. It was a sight to see as premier basketball players from all over the east coast piled into one gym. The Team Loaded organization is really expanding and soaking up a lot of the talent in the central east coast region. Many of these players go on to play at high-major division 1 schools and others go on to play at other division 1, 2, or 3 schools of their choice. We got a chance to see some of the “household name” players such as Caleb and Cody Martin (NC State), BJ Stith (UVA), and Jonathan Williams (VCU) as they got the combine started.
They began with a series of drills that were primarily focused on player development. Each station had a specific skill that they were working on such as ball handling, pick and roll, reading screens, shooting, and defense. They progressed into one-on-one, two-on-two, and three-on-three situations. It was enjoyable to see so many talented athletes competing right before out eyes.
When each team finished their rotation of drill stations, they got with their coaches and prepared for the scrimmages. Each team got to compete against Team Loaded teams from other areas. Team Loaded North Carolina was very exciting to watch as the Martin twins stole the show. Meanwhile Team Loaded 16U from Virginia showed major talent as Deshawn Corprew and Curtis Jones showed their incredible potential. This was the Team Loaded 757’s first year in the organization and they came out and earned their respect against the other Team Loaded teams.
Overall this was a great combine with great talent in what shows to be a very well run organization. We look forward to getting footage of them throughout this spring and summer AAU circuit. Stay tuned for more action brought to you by Playmaker Mixtapes!
